Sustainability

Sumatra Active is dedicated to the sustainability of our planet.

Recycled polyester fabric is everything we love about polyester - lightweight, quick drying and durable - while using much less resources to produce than conventional polyester. Our RPET recycled polyester fibers are made from 100% post-consumer plastic bottles and have been certified according to the Oeko-Tex® Standard 100, a rigorous testing, auditing and certification system for environmentally friendly textiles.

rPET

What is RPET?

RPET (recycled polyester) recycled bottles are sorted, cleaned, and chopped into tiny raw PET flakes. The flakes are then melted and extruded into long thick spaghetti like pellets. The pellets then get re-heated are extruded again to make superfine threads which our factory spins together into our recycled yarn. By using recycled PET plastic bottles, we reduce the need to extract raw materials from our earth. These bottles would otherwise fill up our landfills and oceans. Recycled materials also require up to 50% less energy and water than their raw counterparts because they have already been turned into a form of plastic.

bluesign

BLUESIGN®

bluesign® technologies, helps factories lower overall water, energy and bad chemical use while creating sustainable performance fabrics. bluesign® also helps protect workers from exposure to chemicals.
bluesign® based in Switzerland, created our planet’s strictest chemical safety requirements for textiles reducing water and air emissions of harmful chemicals. Without bluesign®, many of the chemicals used in textile processing would end up in the environment and your closet, with it they are eliminated before the manufacturing process begins.

Tencel

TENCEL®

Tencel® is made from sustainably sourced and naturally renewable eucalyptus wood. The fibers are produced using an environmental award-winning process that recovers 99% of solvents used in manufacturing and dramatically reduces waste.
We blend Tencel® with other fibers to benefit from its natural wrinkle-resistance, strong durability, moisture wicking and antibacterial properties. The certified biobased fibers are as compostable and 100% biodegradable, thus can fully revert back to nature when the clothing reaches the end of its valuable life creating a closed loop production process. CHITOSANTE

CHITOSANTE

A new environmentally friendly treatment, Chitosante, is made from a natural biomass of crab and/or shrimp shells! Chitosante is created when this natural biomass is combined with textile fibers during the dying or finishing process of the fabrics.
ChitoSante is the only anti-bacterial bio-agent in the world that is certified by the United States E.P.A. It is naturally antibacterial, moisture wicking, non-toxic, pilling resistant, breathable, durable, fast drying and environment friendly.
